Political Satire @ CLC

With the November election a little over 40 days away, nearly everything in the media is now politics, politics, politics. If you're anything like me, you're getting tired of all the muckraking, lies, and slander. And it's only going to get worse. Soon we will be assaulted by a myriad of political attack ads (thank you very much SCOTUS).

I found that a good way to cope with the election blues is to laugh about it. The Murphy Library has a handful of hilarious books about political satire. Here are a few of my favorites:

I Am America (And So Can You!), written and edited by Stephen Colbert.
Grayslake 2nd Floor PN6165 .I2 2007

Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot And Other Observations, written by Al Franken.
Grayslake 2nd Floor E885 .F73 1996

Homer Simpson Marches on Washington: Dissent Through American Popular Culture, edited by Timothy M. Dale and Joseph J. Foy.
Grayslake 2nd Floor E169. 12 .H663 2010

Also, don't forget to check out the Rumble in the Air-Conditioned Auditorium. On October 6th, 8pm ET, at George Washington University, political pundits Jon Stuart and Bill O'Reilly will be butting heads for 90 minutes about topics such as gas prices, the national debt, and America's relationships with Muslim nations. The event will be moderated by CNN anchor E.D. Hill and mimic the form of a presidential debate. This historical event can only be viewed online (see the link above) and costs $4.95 to watch. At least 50% of the proceeds will be donated to charities.
