On the Appalachian Trail

CLC instructors Mike Latza and Bob Remedi offered students a unique opportunity to trek parts of the Appalachian trail this past summer.

While the class didn't cover the entire trail, some 2,160 miles, they did trek up Mount Rogers in cold, rainy conditions.

Students could receive dual credit in Biology and Communication Arts by studying salamanders like Plethodon glutinosis and Plethodan jordani.l Writing assignments allowed trekkers to express their feelings through haiku for example, in

of the environment surrounding them.

For more information on the next trip contact Mike Latza (847-543-2956) or Bob Remedi.
